YOGA, AYURVEDA,and DHARMA
Retreat on the Big Island of Hawai'i
4-12 February 2010

As sister sciences, Yoga and Ayurveda teach that each of us is bestowed with a blueprint for living a full and vibrant life -- physically, emotionally, spiritually. When we support and nurture our unique nature, we realize our vitality and potential. When we go against, we may experience life as a physical and emotional struggle. In the ultimate sense Yoga and Ayurveda are sciences which guide us to live a healthy, joyful, and fully integrated life.

Silke invites you to an 8 day retreat to revel in the beauty of the Big Island of Hawai'i and to explore the interrelationship of Yoga and Ayurveda. Learn how the combination of the two sciences balances your nature and helps unveil your highest capacities. The morning yoga classes will be specifically designed to build your knowledge on an experiential level. The afternoon classes will include an in depth discussion of Ayurveda and Yoga, as well as therapeutic and restorative practices.

Topics included during the retreat:
- the doshas: the three primary humors - their function and characteristics
- prakriti and vikriti: balance vs. imbalance in each constitution
- the effects of asana and pranayama on the doshas/humors
- meditation practices for different constitutions, different life circumstances
- the doshas as they relate to seasons, life cycles, and geography
- designing a personal practice for the highest expression of your nature

The site of the retreat, Yoga Oasis, provides comfortable accommodations in one of the world's most stunning locations. Set among 17 acres of rain forest and off the main roads, the retreat center features a second-story screened yoga studio, open on three sides. The center has its own fruit trees and lush gardens, a patio dining area, and is renowned for its healthful, organic fare. Far from the tourist crowds, Yoga Oasis is close to some of the Big Island's most beautiful and remote beaches, natural steam vents and an amazing thermal hot spring that is right on the Pacific -- the perfect remedy for the Midwestern winter.

Our general schedule will consist of:
Morning session: 2 - 1/4 hours Asana, pranayama, chanting/meditation & discussion
Afternoon Session: 2 - 1/4 hours Theory & discussion of Ayurveda ; asana therapeutics and technique

Possible evening programs
Prior to the morning class, fruit and toast will be available; after class you will be treated to an incredible brunch. Healthy snacks will be provided in the afternoon between classes. On most days you will have at least four hours free between classes. The schedule is subject to change in order to accommodate group outings.
